Last days of mixing for Album #1

Sup,

We are currently mixing the last four tracks for our as yet untitled debut album, at Ruby Studios.

As explained in previous posts we've opted to mix these tracks 'in the box'. This gives us more flexibility to go back and revisit mixes and have total recall on sessions.

Yesterday we recorded vocals for the last four tracks, using a sweet Neumann mic...

Rob has a nice little booth set up in his live room...

Back to mixing...

Mixing 02/04/2011

Chest infection followed by flu this week, so no vocal recording this weekend. Instead we've opted to remix some earlier sessions...

Having previously mixed everything through Rob's 'Amex Angela' desk, using a whole host of cool analogue outboard gear, we decided to try mixing everything 'in the box.' With our heavily layered approach to recording we felt it necessary to have total recall on our mixes, so slight changes could be made at a later date. After 14 hours of solid recording, attempting a mix has not always produced the desired result!

Progress is being made and the tracks that we've already remixed in the box this morning are sounding more together.

I'll post some mixes up on soundcloud later...

Recording 27/03/2011

"if it doesn't hurt, your not trying hard enough."

Early start this morning! I recorded all of my guitar parts first thing for four songs. I'm currently using a Fender Jazzmaster (Japanese copy) and borrowed Jon's Fender Blues amp. Pedal wise I used a EH double muff for most my distorted parts, applying a EH memory boy delay to get some swell...

Next up I recorded keyboards. I'm currently really enjoying using my circuit bent casiotone keyboard to game some LoFi 8bit sounds. I've been using the same 3 synths for years, I quite like working within these boundaries. I've used reason soft synths but always end up spending hours trying out every single patch...

As I type Jon is laying down some guitar, he's using his Fender Tornado (rad guitar!) through a rat pedal, into his Fender blues amp...

Hopefully get to some vocals tonight!!!

Recording 26/03/2011

"hey man, let's go, measure the airflow..."

Spent the morning recording drums for four tracks, Mat's new kit combined with Rob's vintage mics and analogue desk is conjuring some sweet warm sounding drums...

Dan is laying down the bass as I type playing straight through a 1950's preamplifier... Hoping to get the guitars down tonight, followed by keys and vocals tomorrow. Best laid plans and all that...

Save Venue Magazine!!

Sad news this week as it appears Venue Magazine is going under... The magazine has been very kind to us in the last few years and helped many more bands and musicians.

If you can, go and buy the latest edition!!

Open the pod bay doors...

Welcome to our blog!

We are currently in the midst of rehearsing songs for our last two recording sessions in march/april. These sessions will complete the recording of our debut album. We have been recording with our friend Rob Williams at Ruby Studios in Bristol. Its been a long process, revisiting old songs and figuring out new ones, but the end is sight... The artwork for the album is being created by Daryl Waller (Lou Barlow, Jason Lytle...), who is one of our favorite artists - cant wait to see what he comes up with!!

We have a show booked for Friday 11th March at a new venue in Bristol called 'The Den.' We will be headlining this show and will be playing some new material...

You can listen to some rough mixes of some of our album tracks here - Countryside on soundcloud.

We've also been given the honor of recently been added to Joe Strummer Music Foundation page - check it out here - Countryside on Strummerville.

Back to the demos...
